  Things to note

  • Use this page to apply PAN Number (Form-49A) only if the applicant holds valid India passport
  • Applicant will receive PAN number as "digital PAN Card" on email
  • ITD will dispatch a plastic PAN card also over Registered Post
  • After fee payment, we review proof documents over e-mail
  • Once documents are verified, the applicant must print PDF, paste 2 photos, sign, and send documents by post/courier
  • Notary attestation is NOT required on documents.

  Documents List

  • Copy of India Passport + One Address Proof as below:
  • For delivery to Overseas address:
    • Required Address Proof (Only one): Driver's Licence, or Utility Bills, or Bank A/c statement, or NRE A/c statement.
    • Documents must show applicant's name and exact overseas address in English.
    • GCC Smart Card is accepted as proof of address for residents in Bahrain and other gulf countries.
    • Tenancy Contract is accepted as proof of address for residents in UAE.
  • For delivery to India address :
    • Required Address Proof (Only one): Passport, or Driver's Licence, Electricity Bill, Voter Id, Utility Bill, etc.
    • Copy of Aadhaar must be provided for delivery to India address
    • Documents must show applicant's name and India address in English

  Send signed application documents by post/courier

Signed application documents are physically required at our India office to begin processing. Applicants must send signed documents to our Chennai address by Postal Service or Courier - with tracking.

  Processing Time

  • PAN Officials begin processing only after the receipt of signed documents in India
  • PAN Number is generally allotted within 7 to 10 working days2
  • After allotment of number, the applicant will receive an e-mail from Income Tax Department of India with ePAN / Digital PAN Card.
  • Use PAN Number received by e-mail for Banks in India or other appropriate uses.
  • PAN Officials send the physical PAN Card by registered post in one to two weeks after allotment.

  General Information

  • Non Resident Indians (NRI) with valid India Passport can apply for new PAN Number using Form 49A
  • NRI Pan Card has International AO Code assigned used for assessment of tax returns
  • If applicant already has PAN Number allotted, proceed here to change address or name.
  • PAN Officials begin processing PAN application after submission of supporting documents
  • Track status online until NRI PAN Card is delivered to foreign countries including USA, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, UAE
